Intel Grand Challenges Scholarship Announcement, Oracle Academy, & Amazon Web Services Educate Workshop

Dear BUILD-IT partners:

Warmest greetings! We hope you all are having a great start to 2017!

We would like to share with you an excellent opportunity to increase the Computer Science (CS) education level, in general, and to meet KPIs related to workforce ready graduates, curriculum innovation, quality assurance and recognition in the BUILD-IT Project, in particular, by registering membership with the Oracle Academy (OA).

OA is present in 110 countries reaching 5.5 million students annually. OA delivers a complete portfolio of software, curriculum, educator training, support, and certification resources as well as provides access to the same technologies that drive industry.

OA aims at bringing about the following solutions:

•       More students need to graduate with bachelor’s degrees (minimum) in CS.

•       More students need to enter the CS pipeline at younger ages - arguably as young as elementary school – and be served by a continuous curriculum pathway into CS.

Below are some typical benefits to participating institutions and students as well as key outcomes:

Benefits to Institutions

•       Free and philanthropic;

•       Full academic curriculum in vendor neutral, foundational concepts, skills and technologies;

•       Additional learning resources to support flipped classrooms and supplement learning

•       Support to credit levelling and mapping;

•       College and career ready, industry literate students.

Benefits to Students

•       Demonstrable skills and knowledge aligned to industry;

•       Path to industry certification;

•       More attractive to colleges and employers.

Key Outcomes

•       Increased CS education level across population;

•       Increased economic growth potential – individuals, regions and nations;

•       Globally competitive students and workers.

In brief, OA meets the challenge of a global skills gap between the number of students graduating in CS and the number of skilled CS workers needed to support the global economy.
